Do I need a certain level of fitness to start taking classes?Although you can begin my classes with any level of fitness, it is recommended to consult your physician if you have any concerns or if you have a prior injury. Feel free to message me if you have any restrictions or limitations and want to determine if a class is the right fit for you.
-
What equipment do I need for an active flexibility class? For a flexibility class, you should bring a yoga mat, comfortable clothing, socks, a water bottle, and any other personal items you may need. It's also recommended to have a towel and resistance bands if you have them. Check each class description to see equipment you may need. If you are coming to the studio, we offer all of the equipment you will need for class. If you have sensitive knees, I recommend having some knee pads or a extra thick yoga mat.

What are the prerequisites for class? There are no skill prerequisites for any class except for Handstand Press. Students must be comfortable holding a handstand on the wall for at least 30 seconds, should be able to kick up into a handstand on the wall, and know how to safely twist out of a handstand.
-
What do you teach in acro floorwork?Acro floorwork will cover foundational floorwork dance movements such as shoulder rolls, shoulder stands, knee spins, roll downs, leg waves, etc. Each class will include a warmup, conditioning exercises, and progressions of moves.
-
What do you teach in active flexibility? In active flexibility, each class starts off with a warmup and then predominantly focuses on mobility and strengthening exercises. Some static stretches will be incorporated in the workout as well, but the focus is mainly on range of motion exercises. Splits classes will focus on front splits, middle splits, and pancake. Backbend classes will focus on bridge, cobra, camel, or lunge backbends.
-
What do you teach in handstands? In Handstands (All Levels), classes start with a warmup and conditioning exercises. The class combines floor and wall drills to help build core and shoulder strength to hold handstands. Students will learn how to safely twist out of a handstand and become familiar with carrying weight on their hands while inverted. Most drills will require a wall or a chair. In Handstand Press, classes will start with a warmup and conditioning exercises. Students are expected to already know how to safely twist out of a handstand. The class combines floor, wall, and chair drills to teach students how to shift weight in their hands to learn the counterbalance needed for a handstand press. More off-the-wall drills will be incorporated and some freestanding handstand drills will be introduced in this class. In both classes, I will sometimes incorporate headstands, forearmstands, and other arm balances such as croc or crow.
-
How can I track my progress in flexibility training?Tracking your progress in flexibility training can be done by keeping a journal of your exercises, taking regular photos or videos of your stretches, and noting any improvements in your range of motion. Consistency is key, and over time, you will notice improvements in your flexibility and overall mobility. Often, progress is also felt internally - e.g. does this exercise feel easier than before? Has my endurance increased?

-
How often should I train?Training frequency and intensity will vary person to person, depending on numerous factors including current fitness level, how often they are currently participating in that exercise, and recovery efficiency. If you find yourself feeling sore for days with no sign of improvement, it can be a sign of overtraining or improper nutrition. I highly recommend at least 3-4 days of rest per week for those new to training. Daily movement is important, but high intensity workout days should be limited.
-
Can I join the classes if I have a previous injury?Yes, you can join our classes even if you have a previous injury. However, it's important to inform the instructor about your injury before the class so that modifications can be made to accommodate your needs.
